About the Reviewer

I am a father of four amazing kids, a husband, a writer, a programmer, an ordained minister, and a very busy guy with a lot going on in his mind. LOL

About This Site

This was just a fun personal project that got out of hand — like most of my "fun person projects" tend to do.

Have Fun

After creating this system for my family, I thought, "Hey, other parents might want this too." With a few tweaks to remove my personal biases and add optional "red button topic" ratings that don't factor into the overall scores, Family Media Review was born.

The Challenge

Let's face it: navigating today's vast, exponentially expanding media landscape with four growing kids is like trying to juggle steaming hot lava with bare hands over your children's heads, hoping not a drop falls on their precious faces. The cultural shift toward normalizing content that conflicts with Christian values—or at best, simply ignoring those values—makes thoughtful media curation more crucial than ever.
I simply wanted a quick and easy way to review media for my family before allowing my kids to watch, read, or play it. But existing review sites either lacked the thoroughness I needed or didn't align with a biblical worldview.

The Solution

After spending considerable time fine-tuning what I wanted in a rating system, I trained the AI to accomplish something that seemed nearly impossible: providing completely objective content analysis from a Christian standpoint. This seemed nearly impossible because for humans, it's virtually impossible to separate deeply held beliefs from objective analysis—our convictions naturally influence how we interpret and present information. But AI can be programmed to understand those beliefs while still ranking content objectively, without being bent by the bias of those beliefs. The AI provides the facts about what's found within media and how various content categories are used, allowing me—the parent—to determine what's appropriate for each of my children.
The key insight? Rather than imposing my specific standards on other families, the system provides granular, objective information that lets each family apply their own biblical convictions and practical considerations.

The Biblical Foundation

Jesus prayed for His disciples—and by extension, all believers—with these words:

John 17:15-19 (NASB 1995)
15 I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
19 For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

We are called to be **in** the world but not **of** it—engaged with culture but transformed by God's truth. This means neither retreating into isolation nor absorbing worldly values uncritically. Instead, we can thoughtfully engage with media, using wisdom and discernment to separate what edifies from what corrupts.

Family Media Review exists to serve this biblical balance: providing the detailed information Christian families need to make wise media choices while remaining engaged with the stories, ideas, and cultural conversations that shape our world.

My Hope

It is my prayer that this site will be a blessing not just for my family, but for many families navigating the beautiful but challenging journey of raising children who love Jesus in a media-saturated culture. May God grant us wisdom as we seek to keep our minds pure while faithfully engaging the world He has called us to live in and to serve.
